Les Manifestations ont pris une autre tournure à la place de l'Indépendance. Les manifestants du M23 se sont heurtés policiers qui ont réprimé la marche, en chargeant les manifestants de grenades lacrymogènes qui ont fini par semer la panique et asphyxier la foule.
